Thermo Team Austria

Preventing airborne dust at a plastic recycling plant

Challenge:

The ThermoTeam Recycling Center in Retznei Austria is a joint venture between Lafarge Zementwerke GmbH and Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG. The facility utilizes the thermal fraction from burnable waste with a high calorific value to make substitute fuel to replace fossil fuels. Typically this ASB fuel is created from non-recyclable plastics and suitable pre-treated waste from  commercial and municipal steams which then once specially processed then serve as a substitute fuel for the cement industry. In 2019 they processed over 98,000 tons of waste.

The Mist-air Solution:

In 2018 mist-air installed a system to suppress dust throughout this facility with roof mounted fan assisted manifolds, this allowed us to direct the mist towards the problem areas but without getting in the way of vehicle movements. ThermoTeam’s biggest issue was from odour complaints coming from exhaust gases leaving the facility. These gases were an unavoidable by-product of the ASB fuel process. mist-air designed a special manifold to create a way of scrubbing the odorous gases as they left the stack but without just masking the smell as other spray
systems often try to do. mist-air treated the mist with our mist-air odour absorption additive which neutralisers odour as the gases leave the exhaust stack but before they had chance to become a nuisance for local residents. The odourous gases are absorbed into the mist and become a solute.
