Aggregate Industries – Respirable Silica Dust Control for Block Paving Production

Targeted Dust Suppression Transforms Unsafe Block Paving Production Environment

Challenge:

Aggregate Industries’ block paving production facility uses a Rumbler machine for secondary processing to create natural-looking sett paving products. This tumbling process, similar to a large concrete mixer, removes sharp edges and distresses cured products but generates dangerous levels of airborne dust and respirable silica. Before intervention, the production environment was unsafe for workers during machine operation due to excessive dust exposure.

The Mist-air Solution:

Mist-air installed a specialized dust suppression system in 2015 designed specifically for the Rumbler operation. The system dramatically reduces airborne dust and respirable silica particles while maintaining completely dry conditions in the production room – essential for concrete product manufacturing where moisture control is critical.
